Gertrude Moray Fitts Stuart

Gertrude Moray Stuart, age 88, passed peacefully in her Spring, Texas home on Saturday January 22nd 2022. She was Born in Houston, Texas on November 8th, 1933 to Betty and Carl Fitts. She was the younger twin to her sister, Gladys. She spent her summers in Galveston Bay swimming and sailing with her family as a child. After graduating high school, she moved to Japan with her family and volunteered with The American Red Cross for three years before returning to Houston, Texas. 

In 1957, Gertrude married Luis Stuart III. Together they had two sons, Luis IV and Carl. Over the years Gertie lived in may places. Spending several years in Tehran, Iran as well as Lake Charles, New Orleans, and Lafayette, before settling down in Spring. 

Gertrude had a great passion for traveling, with her last great adventure being a trip through the Panama Canal in 2019. Her other great love in life was painting. From her fabulous florals to her rich landscapes. There was little that she couldn’t capture with paint and a brush. When she wasn’t traveling and painting, she was busy working on her next sewing project. She was rarely without her beautiful hand sewn shirts and sweaters. One of her proudest moments was completing large quilts for all of her grand and great grand children. 

Left to honor her memory are her husband of 64 years, Luis Stuart III; sons, Luis IV and Carl, his wife, Sammie; grandchildren, Nick and his wife, Dawn, Candace and her husband, Chet, Naomi and her husband, Zack, Clint, Aubrey and her husband, Connor as well as 9 great grandchildren.

She is preceded by her parents, Carl and Betty Fitts; twin sister, Gladys Sartin and her husband, Carol.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of Gertrude Stuart. 

The family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, February 2 , 2022 from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. with a Celebration of Life Service to begin at 11:00 a.m. at Spring Baptist Church, 633 East Louetta Road, Spring, Texas 77373. Associate Pastor Barry Klempnauer will be officiating. Interment to follow at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 2 , 2022 at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
