Honorine Essi Gratien Yao
September 06, 1964 to June 08, 2026
Honorine was born on September 6, 1964, in Paris Village, Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. She was the youngest of seven children and the beloved last-born of her family. From an early age, she was known for her outgoing personality, confidence, and joyful spirit. Never shy, she embraced opportunities that came her way, including appearing in television advertisements for Nestlé in Côte d’Ivoire.
She began her professional career with Afram Assurance before immigrating to the United States in 1998. She first settled in North Carolina, later moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and eventually made Maryland her home for more than twenty years.
Honorine dedicated her life to caring for others. For over fifteen years, she served as a Nursing Assistant at National Lutheran Home in Rockville, Maryland. Her compassion, patience, and kindness touched countless lives.
Family was at the center of Honorine’s life. She was the devoted mother of her daughter, Leslie, and the proud grandmother of Irina, Jesse-Milan, and Zoe. She lovingly cared for her grandchildren for as long as her health allowed.
A woman of unwavering faith, Honorine loved the Lord with all her heart. Prayer was a daily part of her life, and she continued praying until she was called home to be with her Savior. She loved reading the Bible and knew many passages by heart. Sharing the Gospel
was one of her greatest joys, and everyone she met heard about the love of Jesus.
Honorine loved Gospel music and could often be found singing and dancing in worship. She enjoyed cooking, maintaining a beautiful and spotless home, and dressing elegantly for church and special occasions. Her laughter was contagious, often bringing tears of joy to those around her.
She was a trusted friend, a source of wise counsel, and a mother figure to many. Her kindness, generosity, faith, and love will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Honorine leaves behind her daughter Leslie; her cherished grandchildren Irina, Jesse-Milan, and Zoe; her siblings; extended family members; and countless friends whose lives were blessed by her presence.
Though deeply missed, we rejoice in the assurance that she is now resting in the presence of the Lord she loved and served so faithfully.
