Carol Sue Berg
August 08, 1952 to April 18, 2026
Carol Sue Berg born August 8, 1952 to John & Eleanor Nowotnik of Houston,Texas passed away April 18, 2026.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her loving husband Carl S. Berg (Steve) and brother John W. Nowotnik. She is survived by daughter Kimberly Donaghe & husband Paul, daughter and care-giver, Martha Berg, daughter Angela Berg; grandchildren, Miale Rabun & husband Caleb, Wayne (Trey) Hecker, Keith Donaghe & wife Brittany: Payden Greene and Daisy Worchesik. Great-grandchildren: Poppy, Finn, and Rhodes Rabun. Sister, Nancy Peurifoy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Carol was committed to a life of service, both to her community and to her loved ones. As a Houston native and lifelong resident she loved lifting up others through tables of good food and community.
After years of caring for her husband Steve before his passing, she turned to active membership in the HESP union, doing her best to improve the workforce for school staff of the state of Texas. As a dedicated granny she never missed an opportunity to cheer her grandchildren on and share her pride and joy at watching them grow. She fiercely advocated for everyone around her to be the best versions of themselves they could be and never missed an opportunity to encourage you to follow a dream, no matter how hard it seemed to accomplish.
When diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of cancer in late 2024 she did not waiver and applied the encouragement she always gave to others to her fight. An initial prognosis of weeks was quickly cast aside as she fought with everything she could and saw her great grandchildren grow, traveled states from Georgia to Alaska and volunteered herself for student oncology research. She was determined to live, and she did. For two years, under the Northern Lights of the Arctic Circle, on a cruise ship in the Caribbean, in the clouds of the Blue Ridge Mountains and on the shores of South Padre Island, she chose life. Even while undergoing treatment, she filled the last years with more than many get in a lifetime and once again reminded us that faith over fear is always the answer.
She will be greatly missed for her warmth, her selfless love and her unwavering strength. We are comforted with the knowledge her battle was not lost, but won with the welcoming embrace of her loved ones waiting for her at the finish line. There is no longer pain of the body or uncertainty of the outcome in the kingdom of Heaven, where no doubt an angel such as she now resides. Her celebration of life will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, April 27, 2026 at Trinity Lutheran Church Downtown: 800 Houston Ave, Houston, TX 77007, reception with light refreshments at the church to follow.
