Papa Michel was born in Sale, Congo. He  was proud to be part of the Tetela people, a heritage that shaped his identity, his values, and the deep sense of community he carried throughout his life. He brought with him the richness of his culture, the strength of his roots, and the warmth of his traditions wherever he went.

In 1966, he married Marie Anadala, his lifelong partner; together, they shared 59 years of marriage. He leaves behind more than 12 children and more than 35 grandchildren, each one carrying a part of his spirit and legacy.

Early in his life, Papa Michel embraced journalism as his calling, a path that allowed him to use his voice, vision, and passion for storytelling to impact society. In 1977, he traveled to France to study TV production, and in 1984, he furthered his studies in Germany, deepening his expertise and refining the skills that would define his distinguished career.

He rose through the ranks to become the Director of the Production Department, a role in which he influenced the direction and quality of media production in Congo. Later, he relocated to Mbuji-Mayi, where he served for 8 years as the Vice Director of Production—a period marked by growth, mentorship, and innovation in regional broadcasting.

His career later took him to Kinshasa, where he worked with Digital Congo, one of the country’s leading media organizations. His name became synonymous with excellence in television production. Among his generation, he was regarded as a major figure in Congolese television, a pioneer who helped shape the industry and inspired countless others to follow in his footsteps.

In 2015, Papa Michel came to the United States, continuing his journey with the same quiet strength and dignified presence that had defined his entire life.

There are countless memories we hold close, of his laughter, his stories. These memories are now our treasure, reminders of the impact he had on all of us.

As we say goodbye, let us do so with gratitude for the life he lived, the love he gave, and the difference he made.
