Darrell Wayne Smith

August 13, 2025 to October 24, 1961

Darrell Wayne Smith was born on October 24, 1961, in Sugar Land, Texas, to Yvonne Jean Smith and Joe Lewis Henderson.

"Wasp", as he was called by many, was a proud graduate of John Foster Dulles High School, Class of 1981, where he swore he was the baddest on the track and on the field and could not be touched.

After high school, Darrell started working for Devoe Paint before stepping into his real gift: helping people. He never met a stranger, and would help anyone that he could. As the neighborhood handyman, there was nothing he could not do. From assembling furniture to cutting down trees, He would do it all.

But beyond all of that, He had a love for music. Ask anyone, he could tear up the bass guitar and hold it down on the drums. Whether it was during a family gathering or just playing for fun, he would turn up his stereo and pluck his guitar until he finished his set. He also loved to watch sports, and you would swear he was coaching the team, as you could hear him yelling "Come On, Ref!" and "Ahh, come on!" at the TV during the entire game.

He is survived by his father, Joe Lewis Henderson; his daughter, Daironne Smith; and his grandchildren Joelz Baker (“JuJu”) and Syaira Pipkin (“Sy-Bear”). He also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who loved him deeply and will carry his memory forward with laughter, love, and strength.

Darrell was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Yvonne Jean Smith (GG); his maternal grandparents (H.L. Smith and Mama Essie); aunts, uncles, and friends, who no doubt welcomed him home with open arms.

He may be gone from our sight, but he will live on forever in all of us.
