Richard Lee Reedy

February 13, 2025
Richard Lee Reedy, age 88, passed away on February 13, 2025. He was born on September 20, 1936, to Laura and Richard Reedy. After spending his first seven years in Greensboro, Maryland, his family moved to San Antonio, Texas, and later to Victoria, Texas, when he was 14.
Richard attended Victoria College, where he met Gloria Prater, whom he married after graduation. In 1957, the couple moved to Houston, Texas, where Richard attended the University of Houston Law School. During law school, he was admitted to the distinguished Order of Barons and was sworn in as a Texas Baron on his 24th birthday.
Richard joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a Special Agent, working in the New Orleans office before returning to Houston to practice law. During his early years as an attorney, he served part-time as a municipal judge for the City of Houston. In 1970, he resigned from the judgeship and co-founded a law firm with John O. Kain. He practiced law at Kain and Reedy for over 30 years.
Richard and Gloria enjoyed hosting family and friends at their ranch in Gonzales County, where they raised exotic game. In 2001, Richard retired early to care for Gloria after she was diagnosed with brain cancer and received superior medical care at M. D. Anderson Hospital. After a courageous battle, Gloria passed away two years later. After Gloria’s death, Richard dedicated time each week in Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament at St. Michael’s Church where he was a longtime member.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Hammond and her husband, Thomas; His son, Patrick Reedy and his wife, Kellie; His granddaughter, Emily Hammond Albers, her husband William, and their sons, Owen, Jacob, Wesley, and Hudson; His grandson, Paul Richard Hammond; his granddaughter, Iris Bleu Reedy; and his devoted friend, Ms. Gene Rodgers.
Richard was well known for his belief in the adage, ‘actions speak louder than words.” Perhaps that is why he was affectionately nicknamed "Grumpy" by his grandchildren.
