Loretta Ann Thomas

June 03, 1941 to January 16, 2025

Loretta Ann Thomas passed away on January 16, 2025, at 83 years old while living at Hilltop Village, Kerrville, TX. She was born in Liberty, TX, on June 2, 1941, to Harold and Mabel DeFreese. Loretta attended Pasadena High School in Pasadena, TX, and after graduation became an executive assistant at U.S. Steel. Later she started her own business arranging flowers, making arts and crafts, and selling handmade dolls which she continued into her retirement years. In midlife, she decided to go back to college and received a Bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Texas. During retirement she became a Stephen’s Minister at her church, First Baptist Church in Houston.

Loretta was a very social and busy lady, always planning events for her family or her church. She loved volunteering her time and talents at First Baptist Church and Park Temple Church in Houston. Traveling to foreign countries, she used her nursing degree on medical mission trips. She loved to travel and planned many fun and interesting camping trips for her family. She also loved everything about Christmas from decorating her home inside and out and making ornaments to helping to decorate her church. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining, playing games of all types, and spending all the time she could with her beloved husband of 35 years, Jim Thomas. An excellent photographer, Loretta took numerous pictures of all the milestones in her life, her many travels, her beautiful flowers in her yard in Houston, and especially of her family.

Loretta is survived by her brother, Harold DeFreese, Jr., and his wife, Vonnie, and their children, Cindy, Kevin, and Kim, along with their spouses and children. She is also survived by her son, Chris Thomas, and his wife, Cynthia, and their children, Keoni, Alexander, and Bethany, as well as by Keoni’s children, Cadence and Kassidy. She is also survived by her stepson, Brian Thomas, and his wife, Martha, and their children, David and Jonathon, and David’s wife, Lizzie, and their soon to be born child. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bill Ferrell, and his daughter, Amber, her husband, Warren, and their children, Zachary, Isaac, Avery, and Wyatt, and his son, Ty, his wife, Audrey, and their children, Jackie, Anna, and MIcah. She is also survived by her cousins, Twyla, and her husband, Floyd, and their children, Kristen, Andrea, and Leah, and Loretta, and husband, Louis, and their children, Kyle, Terra, and Nikki.

Loretta’s family wants to sincerely thank all of the staff at Hilltop Village for their love, prayers, and friendship. We also thank Sid Peterson Hospice for their care and support in her final days. Thank you all for your excellent care of Loretta. She loved you deeply.
