Valerie Shepherd
March 19, 1948 to October 17, 2024
Valerie Shepherd passed away peacefully the night of Thursday, 8:42pm. October 17th, 2024. With the love of her family surrounding her.
Valerie was born in Princes Town. In the beautiful island of Trinidad.
She migrated from Trinidad to London, England in December, 1970. To pursue a career in nursing; where she excelled in every area of her practice.
It was there she gave birth to her pride and joy. Her heart beat, her daughter, Rheba.
In 1978 Valerie responded to a recruiting call for nurses in Clearwater, Florida, where she practiced for a short time. She later relocated to Houston, Texas where God continued to use her as his hands extended to help others as a nurse and a beacon of hope for many. Even, after her retirement in October 2015.
Valerie had a very endearing quality about her, she was mild mannered, very witty and funny. She was super quick with her funny responses. She frequently laughed at her own jokes, with a laugh that resonated from deep down in her belly.
She loved her daughter and granddaughter more than anything else in this world! She would do anything for them. I should not fail to also mention her beautiful dog Ragga, who followed her around every time she moved.
Valerie was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand to others. Her loyalty, kindness and generosity rose beyond measure.
She loved to shop. Especially for her daughter, granddaughter and for Ragga. Who has many outfits and a box full of dog toys. She loved to purchase nice household items to decorate her home. She was always on point with her advice on interior design, and was often referred to as Martha Stewart.
Basketball was indeed her passion, she always rallied around the Houston Rockets and Comets.
(Sorry Jamaal you know there was ongoing conflict with the Raptors. Still, her heart was always with the Rockets. Even when you got her tickets as the opposing team. She was still cheering for the Rockets). She used to be a season ticket holder and would even take a long bus ride when she did not want to drive.
Let us continue to celebrate her life and everything that she meant to all of us. Men and women die but Legends never die. Valerie’s memory will always have a special place in our hearts. Her light will continue to shine bright. Rest well Val.. until we meet again.
She will be missed by her loving daughter Rheba, her amazing grand-daughter Regal, her sisters Carol, Glorya, Audette (ME) and Junette. Her sister-in law Yvonne and brother-in-law Lawrence. Her nephews Elvis, Frantz, and Liam. Her niece Krista. Her Grandnieces Dyani, Kylah, Paeton and Kynlee.
Relative to the Williams Family, Shepherd Family, Amos Family, Smart Family, Fox Family, Moore Family, Nelson Family and several others.
Valerie was preceded in death by her parents, Ursula Constance Shepherd and Elton Sylvester Shepherd.
