Felipe T. Romero

November 27, 1939 to May 15, 2024


Our beloved, Felipe Treviño Romero, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2024 in
his home located in Missouri City, TX at the age of 84 years old. He was officially
declared deceased at the HCA Houston Healthcare Hospital in Pearland, TX.
He was born on November 27, 1939 in Del Rio, TX to Felipe L. Romero and
Cordelia Treviño of Coahuila, Mexico (who married on August 21, 1937). Felipe attended
and graduated from the San Felipe High School in Del Rio, TX in 1957.
During his time in high school, Felipe joined the San Felipe Mustangs Golf Team.
Their players consisted of Mario Lomas, Lupe Falen, Joe Treviño, Gene Vasquez, and
Felipe T. Romero. Their team won the Texas State Championship in 1957 after
overcoming several racial encounters during those times. Felipe continued in his career
of playing professional golf after his graduation. A biography of their lives was later
published by Humberto G. Garcia, called Mustang Miracles; and a major motion
picture, The Long Game, was released on April 12, 2024. He was portrayed in the film
by actor Miguel Angel Garcia. The film also stars: Jay Hernandez, Cheech Marin, and
Dennis Quaid.
Felipe married Oralia Delgado of Del Rio, TX on December 25, 1968. They moved
to Missouri City, TX and had two children together; Monica Narvais and Angel Romero.
Felipe retired from playing professional golf, and worked as a Houston Metro Bus
Driver for many years until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felipe L. Romero and Cordelia Treviño
Romero; and his wife, Oralia Delgado Romero.
He is survived by his siblings: Gloria Vela (David, deceased), Fernando Romero
(Olga); Maria-Elena Reyes (Tomás, deceased),and Santiago “Shago” Romero (Blanca)
of Del Rio, TX; his children: Felipe “Felipine” Romero (Hilda) of Caldwell, Idaho,
Monica Narvais (Frank) of Missouri City, TX, Angel Romero (Ashley) of Rosenberg, TX,
John Romero of El Cajón, California, and step-daughter, Angie Begemann (Gregg) of
Hartsburg, Missouri; several grandchildren, cousins, extended family and friends.
Felipe’s Memorial Service will be on June 8, 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Real Life
Christian Church located at 3635 Almeda Genoa Rd, Houston, TX 77047. All flowers can
be sent to this address.
His final resting place will be at the San Felipe Cemetery in Del Rio, TX.
