Helen Marie Blosenski Griesser

August 22, 1925 to September 18, 2023

The family of Helen Marie Blosenski Griesser of Sugar Land, Texas is saddened to announce her passing at the age of 98 years in her home on September 18, 2023.

Helen was born August 22, 1925 to Polish immigrant parents Walter and Mary Blosenski in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania.  Along with her 5 siblings, she grew up on the family farm in eastern Pennsylvania.  Growing up she was encouraged to study and play musical instruments.  She was gifted in playing violin, piano, trumpet, and French horn.  After graduating high school, she went to work for the Pennsylvania Railroad in Philadelphia.  Shortly thereafter, she met and then married the love of her life, Robert.  During their life together, they lived in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and finally Texas.

Family was always Helen’s first priority in her life.  She loved so much being at home to nurture and raise her children and manage the household smoothly while her husband pursued a long, successful engineering career in the chemical manufacturing industry.  Their first child, Carolyn, was born shortly after Robert was called to active duty by the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.  Hosting family gatherings was the joy of her life that she greatly treasured.  She loved cooking, baking, and sewing outfits for her children as well as herself.  One of her favorite hobbies was “digging in the dirt” doing landscape gardening and was frequently awarded “neighborhood yard of the month”.  She also inherited a “green thumb” from her mother, yearly growing bumper crops of various vegetables and fruits (both in New Jersey and Texas) which she shared with family and friends.  Throughout her life she continued her enjoyment for music. She was a regular member in the choir at St. Charles Borromeo in Cinnaminson, New Jersey.  In mid-life, she took organ lessons and continued playing her beloved organ until she was 96 years of age.  After she and Robert raised their children, they enjoyed traveling as well as keeping fit by taking exercise classes, yoga, line dancing and working out at the local health club several times a week.

After moving the family to Texas in 1973, Helen & Robert were long time active members of St. Theresa Catholic Church in Sugar Land. For many years she volunteered with the St. Vincent de Paul outreach program.

Helen was predeceased in death by her husband of 67 years. She is survived by her sister, Anna, her five children, Carolyn, Kurt, Joanne, Cynthia, Steven and their spouses, seven grandchildren and  two great grandchildren.

A vigil service with Rosary will be on Friday, September 22 in the chapel at St. Theresa Catholic Church.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, September 23 at St. Theresa Catholic Church.  Burial will be at Houston National Cemetery.  There will not be a graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in memory of Mrs. Griesser may do so to St. Theresa Catholic Church, 705 St. Theresa Blvd., Sugar Land, TX 77498.
